New Executive Director Announcement


(Harrison, NY, July 1, 2019)  The Westchester Putnam School Boards Association (WPSBA) has named Karen Belanger as its new Executive Director. Ms. Belanger was appointed by the WPSBA Board of Directors on June 27, 2019 and assumed her post on July 1, 2019.

Ms. Belanger has been a member of the WPSBA Board of Directors for the past three years, where she has served as Treasurer.  She has also served as President, Vice President and Trustee of the Rye City School District Board of Education. Ms. Belanger is a 2018-19 Education Policy Fellow, a national full-year program held at Columbia Teachers College. Her professional background is in strategy and management consulting.

The Board of Directors is very pleased to welcome Karen Belanger as our new Executive Director.  Through her service on a Westchester Board of Education and experience as an officer of WPSBA, Ms. Belanger has an in-depth understanding of our public education system and the needs of the Westchester/Putnam region.  This background, together with strong management, data analysis and communication skills will provide the leadership we need to move our organization forward. 

“I am honored to be selected by the Board of Directors to lead the Westchester Putnam School Boards Association,” said Ms. Belanger. “I plan to continue WPSBA’s record of excellent service to the school board trustees and public-school students of Westchester and Putnam Counties.”

Ms. Belanger has a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing from the University of Alberta and a Master of Business Administration from Ivey Business School at the University of Western Ontario. Additionally, she has received a Master of Philosophy in Management of Organizations from Columbia University.

Ms. Belanger has worked in strategic planning and as a consultant for the Boston Consulting Group.  Her volunteer service includes seven years on the Board of the Friends of Rye Nature Center and President of the Midland School Parent Teacher Organization.

Ms. Belanger succeeds Lisa Davis who served in the position for 11 years before retiring as of June 30, 2019.
